This is also mainly concentrated on small schools with lesser facilities. The scope of this could be extended by forming Webmaker School Clubs.

The Mozilla Mission

Our mission is to promote Openness, Innovation, and Opportunity on the Web.

We believe in the power and potential of the Internet and want to see it thrive for everyone, everywhere

Agenda :

We reached school on time but due to some reason school principal arrived at 9.20am, so we started the session near about 9.30am.

Its look like School welcome us!!!:)

Session was started with Introduction to Mozilla and why we were here. Students are keenly listening me when Mehul have started to speak, we was very proud that most of all students know about Mozilla but they know if as refer to Firefox but then he have explained them about the difference between them.

In the picture, it looks mehul was stuck but we was telling students that mehul am not a teacher so there is no need to hesitate, mehul have done that pose like a student when they saw any strict teachers. This looks quit cool.

Then mehul have introduce our team and his self as a Firefox Student Ambassador and give them a detail that what we are doing in Mozilla.

Feels proud when mehul have introduced him self. 🙂

This is Amazing, while told them to call us Mozillians. We are Proud Mozillians.:)

What is FOSS?

Provide them a information about FOSS and the values of it.

Session for students started now :

1. Computer & Internet :

    – Explaining the basic components of a Computer,
    – How they work,
    – Basics of Internet,
     – How to access the internet and how the internet is built.

Here mehul have asked students to tell  the definition of computer to their own understanding language.

Students have explained the term computer to their own language, and believe me computer can’t be describe in any one language or word as it can be describe in many language as per the use of person or thinking to use it.

Here mehul can explaining computer in technical word and have described each word of “C-O-M-P-U-T-E-R”,

2. Explain the various networks and their differences and how computers are connected in a network :

      – LAN
      – MAN
      – WAN

Here mehul have started to explain the basic concepts of Networking and their types and I am operating the computer.

Question : What is (Computer) Networking?

Answer :    In the world of computers, networking is the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer hardware and computer software.

1st Type :

LAN – Local Area Network

A LAN connects network devices over a relatively short distance. A networked office building, school, or home usually contains a single LAN, though sometimes one building will contain a few small LANs (perhaps one per room), and occasionally a LAN will span a group of nearby buildings. In TCP/IP networking, a LAN is often but not always implemented as a single IP subnet.

In addition to operating in a limited space, LANs are also typically owned, controlled, and managed by a single person or organization. They also tend to use certain connectivity technologies, primarily Ethernet and Token Ring.

From here Akash had take our the session, this was his 2nd session, it was short session but he was much better than his last session.

2nd Type :

MAN – Metropolitan Area Network

a network spanning a physical area larger than a LAN but smaller than a WAN, such as a city. A MAN is typically owned an operated by a single entity such as a government body or large corporation.

3rd Type :

WAN – Wide Area Network

As the term implies, a WAN spans a large physical distance.

The Internet is the largest WAN, spanning the Earth.

A WAN is a geographically-dispersed collection of LANs. A network device called a router connects LANs to a WAN. In IP networking, the router maintains both a LAN address and a WAN address

Akash was just an AWESOME!! 🙂

IMG_0825Here mehul was come again to provide more information about WAN (Internet) and how it works by giving them a examples.

We are now get ready to watch some awesome videos.

Students are very exited to watch the videos, so here we have started :

Here, Lights off and started the awesome video journey, come and join us :

IMG_0863Mehul have explained them the working of server and how it routed from the client to server via ISP (Internet Service Provider), that video was awesome, must watch guys.

IMG_0843students and teachers both are keenly watching this video.

In between mehul  asked one question and guess what, one of Teacher sitting at front raised the hand, and answered my question.

So in return mehul have gifted them a Mozilla Band and she was very happy after taken and wear it.

Question : What is an E-mail? How it works?

Answer : Short for electronic mail, e-mail or email is a message that may contain text, files, images, or other attachments sent through a network to a specified individual or group of individuals.

Here mehul explaining the email and it working, this also been part of the video.

Question : What is ping?

Answer :    Ping is the name of a standard utility used to test network connections

Question : What is traceroute?

Answer :    Traceroute is a utility that records the route (the specific gateway computers at each hop) through the Internet between your computer and a specified destination computer. It also calculates and displays the amount of time each hop took.

IMG_0878Mehul have gave students a demonstration of PingTraceroute and how its working.

Here is the video for you :

4. What is HTML and how do you create a webpage?

Hear this PPT Introduction To HTML given by Mehul Patel.

IMG_0913IMG_0914Learned basic HTML tags and used of it, time for some practical demonstration as they all are very eagerly waiting to design their first page.

5. Hands on session :

Allow students to learn about the simplicity of coding by allowing them to practice designing web pages.

So, here we started to design to their first web page.

IMG_0920Here Mehul Patel explaining them a basic structure of HTML page.

IMG_0927From here, kids are telling us the tags and their used to create a simple web page. Akash has wrote the program as per students instruction.  Sounds good!!! 🙂

IMG_0928IMG_0929Here mehul explaining the tags and their format to write in program on Black board. Feels great that mehul writing something and kids are learning from there. Feels proud as Student.

Here Mehul and students are discussing, how to make a redirection to any page and how to link image to the program?

Finally coding for program has been completed, we have wrote one program named myschool.html, in that we have tested all the tags and finally we have set the redirection to their schools original website. To check whether its working or not, We have called one Girl from the audience and asked her to click on the name called Swami Narayan School on which redirection has been setup, when she clicked on that name, the page was redirected to School’s main website i.e. Shri Swaminarayan English Medium School

 Introduction To WebMaker :

Webmaker is a part of Mozilla’s non-profit mission to create a more open, web literate world.

It is a new program to help people everywhere make, learn and play using the open building blocks of the web.

Mozilla Webmaker wants to help you make something amazing with the web.

WebMaker Tools :

  1. Thimble,
  2. X-Ray Goggles,
  3. Popcorn Maker & App Maker

Provide them a detailed information about all the tools, but here we have less time left so I have focused more on Webmaker Thimble tool and provide them a practical demonstration of the tool by creating one page for their school. You can see it on below image.

IMG_0922Students were very happy to saw this tool and they also wants to learn others tool as well but as we have less time to left as per our commitments as students summer classes are going on the school and after the day pass they all have summer holidays stated so they been very excited about it. And, we feel very great when students told me that, they will do practice of these tools in summer vacation from their own meanwhile. They have asked us to come again so we have promised them to come again for next time and will definitely teach others tool with too much fun.

IMG_0936Great thanks Akash to help me to handled all the technical stuffs during the event, Thanks for your all help, keep rocking!:)

Any Questions for us?

IMG_0940IMG_0941IMG_0942We have tried our best to give all answers to students questions.

In the whole session students who had gave answers of mehuls questions we have gifted them a Mozilla Sticker and those students who had gave maximum answers We have gifted them Mozilla Band as well. They were been very after getting this awesome Mozilla Swags.

One more best part of this session was that, we have used Ubuntu(Linux) Operating Systemas we are OpenSource Lover. And, the best part is that students loved this O.S. and they keenly seeing the O.S.and the graphical environment when we were performed any task on that.

Time for Group Snap with these Awesome Kids.

Group Selfie with awesome MozBuddies.

I would loved to do this Foxy step ever:)
